CHOPARD TOUR 10 Press Conference
The Town Council of Marbella presents the Chopard Tour 10. The city is reinforced as a luxury tourist destination for golf amongst Russians.
Marbella, 22nd April 2013: Today at a press conference, the Town Council of Marbella presented the new edition of the Chopard Tour 10, the national stage of the most celebrated Russian golf championship in Europe and the Middle East to be held on 26th, 27th and 28th April in La Reserva Sotogrande.
The event was attended by Marina Robertson, organiser of the Chopard Tour 10, Sergey Shikharev, director of Tour 10, José Luis Hernández, Councillor of Tourism of Marbella Town Hall, María Martínez de Medinilla, director of VIP customers of Chopard, and Elena Petrochenko, director of the Chopard boutique in Marbella.
Tour 10 was born four years ago, through the efforts of Marina Robertson and the unconditional support of Marbella Town Hall. The project now has 100 Russian businessmen registered, of which 55 will participate in this year’s tournament, which is the highest number of Russian players in the history of this championship. Companies as important as Chopard, Solo Marbella Group and Ibericar Benet Mercedes-Benz have linked themselves to this sporting initiative, by sponsoring and collaborating with the organisation.
Although the game will take place in the province of Cádiz, all registrants have chosen to reside in Marbella during those days, enjoying the alternatives that the city has to offer as a luxury destination. This makes Marbella one of the most important Russian tourist destinations in Europe.
More than a dozen participants are included in the list of the richest men in the world according to Forbes magazine, among which we highlight Gleb Fetisov who has a fortune of an estimated 1.9 billion dollars. Others such as Kirill Cherniv, Viktor Najahuller, Maksin Elchaninov, Igor Jashkin, Igor Fedorov, Stanislav Pomitkin and Milekhin Andrey have also chosen the city as their destination to enjoy the hobby and the attractions that Marbella has to offer.
The result of these people residing in the town throughout the tournament means a big boost to Marbella and the incentive to continue supporting such initiatives. “The Town Council is conducting very important institutional work in the Russian market and we know that many Russian companies have shown an interest in our town,” said José Luis Hernández.
The Town Councillor thanked Marina Robertson and Tour 10 for their commitment to Marbella and acknowledged the work that has gone into the project since the birth of the championship four years ago, as well as the benefits that it will bring.
“Tour 10 is a golf circuit that brings together the best amateur Russian players. Its participants are senior Russian officials that dominate different sectors within the business, political, and cultural fields and we are aware that many of them want to invest in Marbella”, said Marina Robertson.
Tour 10 has additionally created a non-profit foundation whose main objective is to introduce children and young Russians to the world of golf, as well as to organise trips to Europe for them, with Marbella being the priority destination. These players will be able to play the sport and train for future Olympic Games, in which golf is an official sport.
Meanwhile, María Martínez de Medinilla stated that “there is a mutual interest between Chopard and the Marbella Town Hall to collaborate with Tour 10 and we are all interested in repeating the tournament in this great destination again. This is an excellent investment – guaranteed Martínez Medinilla – I am a great advocate of the Russian market and I think we should continue to support this city so that it continues to be a benchmark as a luxury destination.”
All participants expressed their desire to repeat the experience in Marbella in subsequent years and to work together to make it happen.
The Chopard Tour 10 will end on Sunday 28th April with a dinner at the Beach Club La Cabane, at the Hotel Los Monteros.
