The Local Police of Marbella hold a conference in order to reassure the real estate sector

  • This meeting has been requested by the Leading Property Agents of Spain (LPA), responding to the worries of many associates following the increase in home burglaries.
  • The councilman of Citizen Security, José Eduardo Díaz, has assured that the City Council is making full effort to guarantee the protection of its citizens.
  • José Carlos León, president of the LPA, has highlighted that Marbella has to have an impeccable image of safety to continue attracting investors.

Marbella, 4th March 2024.- The Leading Property Agents of Spain (LPA), the association that brings together the leading real estate agents of the Costa del Sol, have held a conference in collaboration with the Marbella City Council regarding security, at the headquarters of the Marbella Local Police. This event is a result of the fears displayed by the LPA as a result of a lack of safety following an increase in home burglaries in Marbella and the Costa del Sol.

For this reason, the councilman of Citizen Security, José Eduardo Díaz, and the head of the Local Police, Javier Martín, have joined with a group of real estate agents in order to brief them on the different methods that the city council have since put in place to guarantee safety in the town and in the homes of the residents of Marbella. During their meeting, the councilman pointed out the council’s significant investment in direct security, highlighting their position as one of the councils that allocate the most resources to this area within the whole of Spain, with a direct investment of more than 26 million euros annually.

Díaz has assured that “we want to send a message of relief to the real estate agents of the LPA. Marbella is a very safe city to live in, and year after year the crime rate is lowering. Home burglaries indeed occur, but the general perception of the citizens is that Marbella is a peaceful city in which people can walk without danger and be home without the risk of being robbed. That is possible thanks to the work of the Local Police, with the support of the National Police and the Civil Guard”.

Meanwhile, the promoter of this conference, José Carlos León, president of the LPA, and founder and executive director of Nvoga Marbella Realty, has recognised the work of the Local Police and has underlined that “Marbella has to have an impeccable image that guarantees safety as much to those that already live in the area, as to new investors that have the Costa del Sol in their sights as a holiday destination or for future living. To emphasise, the importance of the new general plan enables the possibility of implementing gates, guards, and cameras at the entrances of private housing developments.”

The head of the Local Police, Javier Martín, pointed out that “Marbella stands as the first city in the country to implement a complete video-surveillance system, that not only responds to the prevention and resolving of crimes, but also serves as a proactive deterrent thanks to the more than 300 cameras installed in strategic places, selected through a detailed analysis of the geolocation of previous incidents”.

Martín continued, “Our police force goes beyond traditional ground surveillance, innovating with the use of security drones, especially in areas of high-value such as golf courses, using thermal detection technology to identify suspicious behaviour even in the dark at night.”

“The community-based, balanced and problem-orientated police model that we have adopted allows for quick and efficient responses, adapted to the changing needs of our population, which inflates from 160,000 to 600,000 during the high season. This flexibility is crucial, due to the disparity between the number of registered residents and those present in reality.  With a well-trained workforce of more than 495 professionals, including 395 active police officers and 100 guards in charge of administrative posts (being the second in the province of Málaga), we guarantee constant coverage and protection. This level of preparation and adaptability is the foundation of our promise of safety, essential to maintain the respect of Marbella as a safe and desirable destination for residents and investors,” concluded Martín.

LPA, promoting community and ethics in the real estate sector

The Leading Property Agents of Spain (LPA), bring together several dozen of the best real estate agencies in Marbella and the Costa del Sol. It is a strictly non-profit organisation whose sole objective is to promote quality by sticking to a strict code of conduct and business ethics, and to create a self-governed system that perfects, maintains and expands this real estate approach in the Costa del Sol.

The LPA seeks to raise the classic standards and values, making sure they stay fully up-to-date. For that reason, The Leading Property Agents of Spain organise forums and courses, and collaborate with experts in the fields of architecture, city planning, project management, financial and legal planning, as well as modern marketing and real estate.
