Marbella, 21st of August 2024 A new cuisine concept has just landed on the Costa del Sol’s gastronomic scene. The Zengo restaurant opens its doors in the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella by international chef Richard Sandoval, offering the perfect fusion between Asian and Latin cuisine and emphasising strong flavours paired with a distinctive and very personal cocktail bar.
Zengo, which means ‘to give and receive’ in Japanese, is an ingenious mix of latin-asian styles and flavours. It is owned by chef Richard Sandoval, who has been awarded the Bon Appétit Restaurateur of the Year Award, the James Beard Outstanding Restaurateur Award and Mexico’s Toque de Oro.
Zengo restaurant arrives in Marbella backed by the international investment fund Stoneweg, specifically its Stoneweg Foods division, through which Richard Sandoval will be present on the Costa del Sol in an unbeatable location: the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella. In this privileged site, Zengo has a capacity for 90 diners inside and a further 100 on its large outdoor terrace. All of which will be served by 25 staff specially formed by chef Sandoval and his multidisciplinary team from the Richard Sandoval Hospitality group.
‘Being in Marbella is a dream come true. Zengo’s cuisine fits perfectly with the Costa del Sol mentality: international, eclectic, sophisticated and appealing to both the Spanish and international clientele, who live and visit this unique area of Spain and the world,’ says Sandoval.
Zengo: a unique and modern culinary style
Chef Richard Sandoval has created a culinary style with a strong personality based on combining the best of Latin cuisine with Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Indonesian, Singaporean, Vietnamese and Korean cuisines. Zengo’s innovative menu ranges from Nikkei-inspired sushi and sashimi to curries, grilled entrees and wok dishes, all of them with Latin influences, with an average ticket price of €57. The ingredients are sourced from the best zero-kilometre producers on the Costa del Sol.
Highlights include a wide selection of makis such as the lobster maki, with lobster, avocado, mango and ‘macho’ sauce, the AngryZengo, with spicy tuna, avocado, lemon and yuzukosho mayonnaise and the Gambas Yuzu maki, with prawn tempura, quinoa, spring onion and chipotle yuzu. Also worth mentioning are the NasiGoreng wok, with fried rice, chicken saté, pickled vegetables and fried egg; and the Beef wok – UdonNoodle, with bokchoy, spring onion and furikake.
These dishes, and the rest of Zengo’s complete culinary offering, are complemented by the drinks menu which includes six signature cocktails (innovative hand-crafted cocktails), as well as Latin and Spanish wines, Japanese sakes and the best references of tequilas and mezcals.
